Finding Safe and Natural Skin Care Products That Work

Choosing safe and natural skin care products can be tough.   It’s not that companies don’t “claim” to produce them.  It’s just that their claims are not completely true.

Safety is truly the major issue here.  Like most people, you want naturally occurring compounds, because you think they are safer than artificial ingredients.   In many cases, you are right.   But, there are some exceptions.

Mercury, cadmium, lead and other heavy metals are naturally occurring compounds.   They may not be on the list of ingredients in your favorite skin care products, they can be there as contaminants in natural plant extracts.

1000's of contaminants exist in tap water, which is why water must be purified before it is used in cosmetics.   Purified water does not occur in nature.   You can see the contradictions and the confusion.

We need to be able to trust in the cosmetic companies' ability to provide the safest all natural skin care products.   How can you find a company worthy of your trust?

Choose a company that is a signer of the “Compact for Safe Cosmetics”.  Companies that have signed the compact have agreed to adhere to the European Union’s higher standards for cosmetic ingredients.  Large companies were given the opportunity to sign.  Not one has agreed to sign.

The European Union has tightly regulated or banned 1000's of ingredients, because they are known to lead to cancer, birth defects or hereditary mutations.  The US has restricted only a few ingredients.

The latest report from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics warned against the use of perfumes & fragrances.   Whether chemical or naturally occurring, fragrances can trigger asthma attacks, allergic reactions, headaches and shortness of breath.   They are also common allergens.

According to the law, cosmetic companies are not allowed to sell any product that can cause harm to the wellness of the user.  But, they are not required to prove their ingredients are safe.   Any company that uses artificial preservatives is actually breaking the law, because they are known to cause allergic reactions.  That is harmful to the user's health.

As you continue to look for anti aging skin care products, make sure to choose companies that are signers of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics.   That way, you’ll be safe.
